Increase Awareness

Courtrooms across Idaho host hundreds of adoptions each year. In November 2023, the Idaho Judicial Branch celebrated that adoption process while recognizing National Adoption Day.

National Adoption Day is an effort to increase awareness of the children in the nationwide foster care system who are waiting to be adopted. At the time of the proclamation, more than 400 foster children awaited adoption in Idaho. 

• In Lewiston, the Second Judicial District in partnership with the Second Judicial District CASA Program hosted an evening adoption celebration. 
• In Caldwell, the Third Judicial District in partnership with Region 3 Health and Welfare hosted a celebration including adoptions and a ceremony for families. Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Director Dave Jeppesen attended and finalized adoptions. 
• In Boise, the Fourth Judicial District gave newly adopted children gift baskets, cakes and books – all donated by court and county staff. 
• In Pocatello, the Sixth Judicial District hosted speakers, light refreshments and a free stuffed animal for youth at its celebration. 
• In Rexburg, the Seventh Judicial District hosted speakers and provided teddy bears for adopted children.
